DESCRIPTION:Date: Friday\, 3 October 2025Time: 1:15–2:00 PMVenue: Victoria Rooms Auditorium\, University of Bristol \nOn Friday\, 3 October 2025\, pianist Mengqing Nie\, a doctoral researcher at the University of Bristol\, will collaborate with Prof Cheng Yu and the other musicians from the London Youlan Qin Society in a special lunchtime concert titled “China in Black and White.” \nThe performance explores the dialogue between Chinese folk melodies and Western piano traditions\, offering a rare encounter between East and West through sound. The programme highlights works from the Cultural Revolution period (1966–1976) — a defining era for Chinese piano transcriptions — while also presenting fresh reinterpretations of traditional Chinese music. \nBy bringing the expressive voice of Chinese plucked-string instruments into conversation with the piano\, the concert creates a unique sound world that blends heritage and innovation\, tradition and modernity.
